Australian Painted Snipe

Should be a great year for waterbirds so let's go for broke - 250 spp for 2011.

Australian Painted Snipe

Post by Pat McConnell »

An injured male Australian Painted Snipe was found in Greenwattle Street and Olive Booth was contacted to see if she could help. She and Kev & Kay Williams went and picked up the bird and took it to an animal carer. This is a great find for the local area and as far as I can remember it is the first record in the club area west of the range. Lets hope that it survives.

This is extraoordinary. What section of Greenwattle St? What were the circumstances? Any further news on the bird?

More Painted Snipes!

Post by gileas »

Wow, what a great record (except for the bird, which I hope recovers!)

This has really been a red-letter year for Australian Painted Snipe, with individuals reported from all over the place. I think the individual count for the year for the whole country is well in excess of a hundred birds. I'm hoping some non-injured individuals show up in the Lockyer Valley again, so keep an eye out.

Cheers,
Chris Sanderson
