Red-kneed Dotterel & Red-necked Avocet

Post by Mick Atzeni »

Plaxy Barratt and I checked some local waterbird habitats today hoping to add to the Challenge list and scored an unexpected double at the Helidon Spa; we saw two Red-necked Avocets and a Red-kneed Dotterel in the western pond, literally side by side.

There was also a Buff-banded Rail on the eastern pond. They seem to be bobbing up everywhere these days. We'd see one a few minutes earlier at Murphys Bridge, Back Flagstone Ck Rd, Helidon. Rod Hobson and I got one at "Tiddalac", Upper Lockyer yesterday.

At Murphys Bridge, we also saw Chestnut-breasted Mannikins, Plum-headed, Double-barred & Red-browed Finches.

Cheers
Mick
