Square-tailed Kite - and an Osprey at last!

Post by Mick Atzeni »

Gayle Lee, Kev & Kay Williams, Claire Hanney and myself had a wonderful day in the Lockyer Valley doing the annual raptor census. We picked up 14 species - a record - and around 125 raptors in total. Amongst them was a Square-tailed Kite along Andersons Rd, Helidon, then later over the Helidon township, presumably the same bird.

I finally added Osprey to my list for the local area too, as did everyone present! Took me 33 years though. One flew over us as we were driving along Lawlers Rd just east of Helidon, around 11:50am, presumably the same bird Bill Jolly has been seeing around "Abberton" lately, which isn't that far as the Osprey flies.

Cheers
Mick
