They're Back

Post by Pat McConnell »

Kath and I got our first Eastern Spinebill for the yard this year on 24 April. They arrived on 22 April last year. Though present in forested areas around Toowoomba all year round species like Grey Fantail, Rufous Whistler and Golden Whistler do have local movements. Over the last couple of weeks I have noticed large numbers of Grey Fantails in our yard at Highfields, at the Uni and many other places where they were not present, or only present in small numbers in March. The same can be said at Highfields in regard to Golden Whistlers. They are calling all around home at the moment and when I track them down they are usually young males. We are now awaiting the arrival of our first Rose Robin for the season.
