I was very lucky to get quite close to a pair of yellow-tailed black cockys recently. Their different call,(compared to red-tailed blacks), alerted me to them.
I was driving home east on Nelson street at about 6.15am. They were flying parallel to the car on my right for approximately ½ kilometer. I stopped the car just before the motorbike track and they turned left and flew directly above the car at about 10 meters, so I got an excellent look at their cheek patches and what appeared to me to be narrower tail than red-tailed .
